How to Break Down Scripture in 5 Minutes (Without Feeling Lost)
Scripture Breakdown Week 1: A New Way to Think, Live, and Worship (Romans 12:1-2)
Can I be honest with you? Reading the Bible consistently is hard enough. Understanding it? Even harder.
That’s why I created Scripture Breakdown—a weekly guide that helps you connect with God’s Word in a way that’s clear, simple, and actually doable. Each week, I take one verse and walk through a 5-question framework to make Scripture feel more approachable and applicable.
Today we’re starting with one of my favorite foundational passages: Romans 12:1–2.

SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” — Romans 12:1–2 (NIV)
THE BREAKDOWN - 5Q Scripture Framework
What does it say?
Because of God’s mercy, we’re urged to present ourselves fully to Him—body and mind—as a living act of worship.
What’s the context?
Paul is writing to believers in Rome, transitioning from deep theology (chapters 1–11) to practical application. This is the “how to live it out” part of the letter.
